OP-ED: Nintendo Direct Unlikely to Reveal Redesigned 3DS Tomorrow

A series of Nintendo Direct events are set to take place tomorrow, as creatively announced today through Swapnote messages sent out to 3DS owners. This is the third time Nintendo Direct is taking place and as Nintendo of America and Europe will each be hosting their own videos, as opposed to a broadcast only in Japanese, we should be getting much more information that is of interest to those outside of Japan.

The trend seems to be for Nintendo to showcase content through Nintendo Direct every two months. The first one took place in October, and although it did not bring with it any earth-shattering revelations, there were some newsworthy announcements. We received details on the 3DS system update adding 3D movie recordings and new StreetPass content, specifics on Mario Kart 7's online functionality, and new games were announced for Japan.

Hideo Kojima has been trying to make a video game for 25 years now. With Metal Gear Solid 3, he very nearly succeeded.

This isn't to say Kojima hasn't overseen the creation of quite a few games in his time -- from whimsical penguin racers to vampiric spaghetti westerns with overtones of Norse legend, he's had his hand in several greats. But he's best known for the Metal Gear series, the ongoing saga of a guy named Dave who constantly, reluctantly finds himself as the world's last resort against utter nuclear armageddon, and all just because he happens to possess an acute genetic disposition to be adept at killing people. (He inherited it from his dad. Whom he killed. Twice. Once with hairspray.)

Rumor: next-gen Xbox controller might have a touchscreen too

We know gamers are clamoring for some news on the next Xbox. Today's crazy rumor comes from a nugget in Xbox World Magazine that claims Microsoft is prototyping a controller with a touchscreen flanked by traditional 360 analogs, buttons and triggers. If that sounds like the Wii U's controller, you're not alone.
