Shelf Life: Week of Dec. 10, 2007

Published on: 10th December, 2007

Ignoring all the drama and controversy of the industry for just a moment, all we really want to do is play more great games. Once a week, publishers hear our cry and ship new games to stores. To help you figure out which ones are best for you, we present Shelf Life, 1UP’s weekly feature where we let you know what games to expect this week and point out what we’ve said about them (so far). Watch for the following games in stores the week of December 10, 2007.

Monday, December 10

  • Blacksite: Area 51 (PS3) — So PS3 owners can finally pick up Blacksite this week, but after one of the game’s own creators explained how “f***ed up” the project was, will they really want to? If that’s not enough to turn you off, scope 1UP’s review of the 360 version. Sounds like a rental at best.

Final Fantasy Retro Roundup

Published on: 8th December, 2007

We come to praise the series…or to bury it.

he Final Fantasy series is 20 years old this month. Those 20 years have seen 12 entries in the series, not to mention dozens of spin-offs and remakes. Clearly, Square Enix has made some fine role-playing games here, but how do you tell which are timeless classics and which are dated disasters? With our Retro Roundup, that’s how. We’ve taken the time to reevaluate every Final Fantasy title released in the U.S. to date (and quite a few that never made it out of Japan) and offered our best judgment about which games to hunt down and cherish…and which are best forgotten. The results may surprise you!
